A research from Ireland shows that numerous teenagers that tried e cig never smoked.the figure from Ireland Tobacco Research Institute shows, rate of the teenagers between 16 and 17 that have tried vapes soared from 23% in 2014 to 39% in 2019. Now 39% teenagers have tried e cigarette, while 32% tried smoking, about 68% of vape adopter said that they never smoked. And the status from thousands of teenagers shows that the leading two reasons for them to vape is because of curiosity (66%) or because their friends are vaping(29%),only 3% are trying to quit smoking. Mean while, data shows that the possibility of trying vape will be 55% more for the teenagers with vaping parents. One research that release by International Congress of European Respiratory Society in Barcelona in 2022 found that such youth have 51% possibility to consume e cigarette, the director of this institute Ke Klancy express, We found that more and more Ireland teenagers are using e cigarette, this is a model that are emerging elsewhere in World.” People consider vape is better option than smoke, but it doesn’t apply to the teenagers that never tried vape. It shows to Youth that E cigarette is a method of being addictive to nicotine, instead of quitting it.
Chief Researcher Doc Joan Hanafin added “we can see the number of consuming vapes change swiftly, so we will keep monitoring the situation in Ireland and elsewhere in the World. “ we plan to know how social media affect the boy and girls’ vaping action”
The chairman of European Respiratory Society Professor Jonathan Grieg comments “the findings are so worrying,not only to teenagers in Ireland, but also to all families in the world”.
Although it is illegal to sell e cig to teenagers under 18 in most countries, but the health specialists are worrying about the soaring trend of consuming e cigarette (especially disposable e liquids) children and teenagers.
