Macao has revised tobacco control law to ban the manufacture and sale of e-cigarettes
The Legislative Council of Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) held a plenary meeting and passed the revised Law 5/2011 on the Prevention and Control of Smoking on August 29.
In the future, the Macao SAR will ban the manufacture, distribution, sale, import and export of e-cigarettes, as well as tobacco products for oral or nasal inhalation, including the carrying of such products out of and into Macao SAR. The law will be enforced 90 days after its promulgation. The products that include 510 battery variable voltage,disposable vape,Non Nicotine Vape,mini vape,oil vape pen,vape start kit,flavored vapes,stick cbd battery,etc.
There will no longer be any legal channels for e-cigarettes to enter Macao SAR after this law enforced, including postal delivery, selling, on line selling and carrying,and smuggling.Violators will be fined 4,000 patacas. If you just carry vapors through Macao, your luggage will not be allowed to enter Macao.It will not be affected if you only transfer or transit.
Macao’s Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ouyang Yu said that since the implementation of the new tobacco control law more than 10 years ago, the use rate of tobacco in Macao has continued to decline. The use rate of cigarettes among the population aged 15 and above has gradually decreased from 16.6% before the new tobacco control law came into effect to 10.7% in 2019, a relative decrease of 35.5%.
The Macao SAR government has banned the sale, advertising and promotion of e-cigarettes since 2018, as well as the smoking of e-cigarettes in non-smoking places. However, experts believe that the use of e-cigarettes among young people is on the rise and it is necessary to strengthen the control, so the revision and passage of the new tobacco control law.
